Getting Prepared

When FAX Sr. is installed it creates an icon resembling a rhinoceros in your Windows system tray.  By double clicking this icon you invoke the FAX Sr. client.

There are some initial settings that need to be made in order to have the system recognize you and to let you function smoothly.  The first thing you need to do is identify your self to the system.  We use your GroupWise internet address for this purpose.  Select Tools/Options from the menu bar and then click the Server tab.

Under the Email name field enter your email address as it would appear to someone on the Internet.  Do NOT include any "INET:" routing information.  The form should be your GroupWise ID followed by "@dcccd.edu" as per the example above. Also make sure that in the Host Name field it says faxsr.dcccd.edu .  The other fields should be filled in with the correct information already.

Next select the Cover Page tab.

In the Your name field enter your full name as you would like it to appear as the sender on all FAXes that you send.

Next select the Inbox tab.  This provides you with options as to how you'll be notified when new faxes have arrived.  Click the box next to the option to either enter or remove the check mark that turns the option on.

bulletPopup a Message Box:  If this option is selected, a newly arrived FAX will cause a box announcing the arrival to pop up on your screen.
bulletBeep: If this option is selected you can set how many times and how often your workstation will beep when a new fax comes in.  Opening up the FAX Sr. client will stop the beeping.
bulletPlay a wave file:  This allows you to specify a Windows wave file that will be played on the arrival of a new fax.  The sound is played only once, so you may not be aware of a new FAX
bulletFlash the Taskbar Icon: With this option set the rhinocerous icon on your system tray will flash until you open the FAX Sr. client.  If your task bar is normally hidden you may not be aware of a new FAX until the task bar is used.

The other tabs provide options for preferences of your choosing.  Inasmuch as this section is intended just to get you up and running we won't dwell on them here.  For the most part they're self-explanatory.

Once your options have been set, click the OK button to write them out to the database.
