Workstation Security Patch Update Procedure

When there is a new security patch update available for DCCCD standard OS and software, the DCCCD Network Security Administrator will push out the update through Novell login script on the administrative network. The DCCCD Network Security Administrator will have available the files and utilities for the educational networks upon request.

The security patch pushout will check, if able, the os version, and file version of the affected file(s) using DOS batch files and required utilities. We will pushout the update on WORKSTATIONS ONLY. We will not pushout to servers nor non Windows platform machines.

How it Works

During the Novell login, the userID that belongs to a security update group will exit to a batch file.

In the batch file, the first check is for the OS. Using GETTYPE.EXE utility, this will check for all Windows 9x and above for the exact OS type.

If the above check determines that the machine is a server, it will echo a message saying the machine needs a security patch update and exit the batch file.

If it is a workstation, there are several possibilities depending on the type of patch.
