Creating a GroupWise Adjunct Faculty User

Adjunct faculty members are given access to GroupWise only through the SMTP gateway. The nature of this arrangement is such that it doesn't require them to have an NDS account, though a database entry is created in NWAdmin. The user has no access to network resouces and must access their email through a Web Browser.

In order to keep things somewhat uncluttered we've opted to create a container under each campus container called ADJUNCT so as to make them easier to find and to cut down on the number of objects showing up in the primary container.

To create the adjunct faculty member:

  1. Highlight the Adjunct container within your campus container.
  2. Either press INSert or right-click the container and select Create.
  3. Scroll down to GroupWise External Entity and select it.
  4. Enter in the GroupWise Object ID.

This would be the same ID that we use for network IDs.

  5. The same ID is used in the External Network ID field. Enter it.
  6. Fill in the Last Name
  7. Click the Define additional properties box.
  8. Click the browser button on the GroupWise Post Office field.

This will bring up a Select Object dialog with the initial context being the Adjunct container.

bulletDouble click the Up Arrow in the box on the right
    bulletDouble click the po container.

Your post office will appear in the left hand box.

    bulletDouble click the post office.

You will be placed in a Window for adding more information.

  9. Fill in the following fields under the Information tab.
    bulletFirst Name
    bulletTitle (usually just "Adjunct Faculty."
    bulletDepartment
bulletPhone (optional) (might be division phone)
    bulletFax (optional)
  10. Click the GroupWise Account tab on the right

Almost all of the fields will be filled in.

  11. Fill in the Account ID field if you're tracking accounting
  12. Click the Change GroupWise Password button.
  13. Enter the user's password in both the Enter new password field and the Retype password field.

The initial password must be entered by the administrator. GroupWise 4.1 Web Access doesn't allow a user to set/change their password. GroupWise 5.x Web Access allows password changes but the initial password must be set by the administrator.

  14. Click OK.
  15. Click the Nicknames tab on the right.
  16. Click the Add button.
  17. Click the globe on the Domain.PO: field.
  18. Find and double click the correct post office.
  19. Enter the Nickname in the Object ID field.

This should match the first and last name.

  20. Click OK
  21. Click the GroupWise Distribution Lists tab on the right.
  22. Wait for the Add button to appear and click it.
  23. Immediately click the Stop button on the right.
  24. Enter the name or wildcard of any public group to which the user should be added and hit <ENTER>
  25. When the lower part of the box shows the matching groups, select the appropriate groups (control-click) then click OK.
  26. Click the OK button in the lower left to save your changes.
